Navigate the 13.86 km² Peräjärvi region - find all locations, shortcuts, and survival points without a GPS
The Peräjärvi region covers 13.86 km² of frozen Finnish roads. Because the game is set in 1999, you will not find a modern GPS on your car's dashboard! You must rely purely on this map guide, visual landmarks, and the physical map hanging at your parents' house. Memorizing these key locations and intersection signs is the only way to survive the blizzard.
Where: Parents' house in Kesselinperä peninsula
Exact Spot: Wall above the telephone table in main room
Print Date: 1989 (making it approximately 10 years old by January 1999 game timeline)
Label: "Peräjärven yleiskartta" (translates to "General map of Peräjärvi")
Purpose: Shows entire region without pausing game, essential for immersive navigation
Understanding the physical map's visual language helps you navigate efficiently:
Paved roads (National Route 70 highway). Best grip in dry conditions, worst grip in winter due to polished ice layer.
Unpaved dirt roads. Better winter grip than paved roads due to snow/gravel texture, but slower speeds.
Residential houses. Potential advert delivery locations, septic tank customers, and NPC homes.
Commercial/public buildings. Includes PSK gas station, Fleetari's garage, Futufon factory, inspection office.
Farm fields. Generally not accessible for driving, visual reference for location identification.
Marsh terrain. Avoid driving here - vehicles can get stuck or damaged.
Gravel pits. Some are drivable, others are obstacles. Approach with caution.
Solid rock surfaces. Generally impassable terrain, navigate around these sections.
Forested regions. Typically inaccessible, form natural boundaries of playable area.
| Road Type | Length/Details | Winter Grip | Speed Limit | Police Enforcement | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| National Route 70 (Highway) | ~13 km loop around lake, 6 intersections | WORST (thin polished white ice layer) | 80 km/h | Yes (speed cameras + police checkpoints) | Fast travel when dry, dangerous in winter |
| Dirt Roads | Network connecting to highway at 4-6 points | BETTER (snow/gravel texture provides traction) | No posted limit (~50-60 km/h safe) | No | Safer winter driving, local access |
| Frozen Lake Ice Road | Diagonal shortcut across Peräjärvi lake | SLIPPERY (recommend studded winter tires) | No limit (use caution) | No (bypasses all checkpoints!) | Shortcut, avoiding fines, time savings |
| Ice Racing Track | Oval circuit between town & cottage island | PREPARED (track maintained for racing) | No limit (race speeds 60-100+ km/h) | No (racing venue) | Folk racing every other weekend |
| River Ice Surface | Northeast corner river section | VARIABLE (check surface carefully) | No limit (use extreme caution) | No | Exploration, alternate routes |
Developer Confirmation (Toplessgun, May 26, 2024): "And the worst grip is on the highways, because there the ice layer is most thin.. but packed.. it's very packed.." The National Route 70 features white ice (not black ice), which is a very thin, packed, and polished ice layer. Despite being paved, this creates the worst driving conditions in the entire game. Expect extremely long braking distances, easy spin-outs on turns, and difficulty maintaining control above 60 km/h.
Why Critical: PSK is your lifeline. Job board for taxi/advert work, ATM for banking, parts catalog sales, postal services, food/drinks for survival, and gambling machine. Every playthrough starts here. Inside the restaurant area, find the notice board with job flyers (taxi 08-712112, adverts 08-231206).
What You Find: Engine parts (NOS condition), tuning components, tire changes, bodywork repairs, paint jobs, and vehicle inspections. Limited stock that restocks at random intervals. Free tool cart inside with complete spanner and ratchet sets. Pay AFTER work is done (Fleetari keeps your keys until payment).
Key Resources: Physical map above phone table, Kekmet 502 tractor in large red woodshed (for firewood job), AMIS parts catalog in garage, unlimited storage space, sandbags for vehicle weight, and sauna for warming up. Deliver Rivett here to unlock taxi job poster at PSK.
Your Daily Hub: Game starts here. Bed for sleeping/time skip, toilet for saving progress, phone for calling jobs/parts orders, fridge for storing food/beer. Advert delivery job spawns pile at doorstep every Monday. Close to PSK, Pub Nappo, and Flea Market.
Factory Job Details: Large red building, easy to miss while driving. Park and plug in block heater before entering. Inside, turn LEFT to find receptionist. Main job offers guaranteed weekly income but requires Monday-Friday commitment. Mandatory Tuesday meetings. Sliding work hours (arrive late = leave late).
Survival Resource: Crucial for managing Problem meter (alcoholism). Beer is MANDATORY to lower Problem stat and prevent death. Also offers coffee for warmth, cigarettes, and Ventti card game (gambling - high risk but potential for big wins). Open daily, convenient location near apartment.
"Peräjärvi" translates to "rear lake" or "end lake" in Finnish. The entire lake is frozen solid during winter, with thick snow-covered roads that are fully drivable. This is the primary difference between My Winter Car and My Summer Car maps - the addition of ice roads across the frozen lake surface.
Critical Benefits: The ice road bypasses ALL speed cameras and police checkpoints, making it the fastest route for players worried about fines. Cuts straight across the map instead of following highway loop. However, requires careful throttle control - sudden acceleration causes wheelspin, sharp turns cause spin-outs. Studded winter tires HIGHLY recommended.
Racing Details: Oval ice circuit prepared for side-by-side lap racing. Traditional Finnish winter motorsport. Folk race events alternate weekends with Rally Sprint (when ice track runs, rally doesn't, and vice versa). Small tent nearby serves coffee from thermos dispenser and grilled sausages. Track surface is maintained/prepared, offering better grip than random lake ice.
Current EA Version: Vehicles do NOT break through ice or fall into the lake. The frozen surface is completely solid and safe to drive on anywhere. Developer Note: Toplessgun has stated he wants to implement ice-breaking mechanics in the future, but this feature is not currently active in the game. Drive on ice roads and lake surface without fear of falling through - just worry about grip and control.
Studded winter tires provide dramatically better grip on ice. While possible to cross without them, the risk of spinning out increases significantly. Invest in proper tires before attempting lake shortcuts.
Avoid sharp turns when transitioning from land to ice. Smooth steering helps prevent immediate loss of control. Gentle, progressive inputs are key to maintaining traction on slippery surfaces.
Sudden throttle application causes wheelspin and loss of direction. Apply power gradually and let the car settle into a straight line before increasing speed. Patience prevents spin-outs.
Braking distances are MUCH longer on ice (3-4x normal roads). Light, early braking is far safer than last-second stops. Plan stops 50-100 meters in advance.
If rear starts to slide, ease off throttle (don't brake!) and countersteer gently. Overcorrecting usually makes the slide worse. Small, smooth corrections work best.
If your car setup is unstable or you're still learning vehicle handling, stick to regular roads. Lake shortcuts save time but demand skill. Practice on empty lake sections first.
