🚗 Starting the Sorbett - Complete Tutorial

The Sorbett 1600 LTD (based on Talbot 1510) is your daily driver. It's parked outside your apartment, already plugged into a block heater. For detailed vehicle specs and maintenance, see our Vehicles Guide. Here's how to start it properly:

CRITICAL: Block Heater Management

🔴 ALWAYS Unplug Before Driving!

If you drive with the block heater cable attached, you will rip it out and damage your car. Always unplug at the FRONT of the car before getting in.

When parked at home: ALWAYS plug it back in! If left unplugged overnight, the oil freezes and the car won't start.

Cold Start Procedure

  1. Approach the Sorbett
Go to the front of the car, find the block heater cable
  2. Unplug block heater
Right-click the cable, drop it on ground
  3. Get inside
Press C to crouch, click driver door. Windows will be frozen - this is normal.
  4. Enter driving mode
Press Enter. You'll see "N" (neutral) in bottom-right corner.
  5. Insert key
Hover over ignition, click ONCE with LMB. Dashboard lights turn on.
  6. Pull choke
Look to LEFT of steering wheel, find small knob. Click with LMB to pull it OUT fully.
  7. Start engine
HOLD LMB on ignition while giving a little gas (W). Engine will sputter and struggle.
  8. Let it idle
Once running, let engine idle for 1-2 minutes. After driving a bit, slowly push choke back IN with RMB.

Defrosting Windows

Your windshield will be covered in ice. Two methods:

Method 1: Heater (Slow but thorough)

Method 2: Manual Scraping (Fast but incomplete)

💡 Recommended: Combine Both Methods

Start heater first, then manually scrape while it warms up. Gives you 50% visibility in 1-2 minutes instead of waiting 5 minutes.

Driving Basics

  1. Release handbrake: Look at handbrake lever, click or press Space
  2. First gear: Press G to shift into 1st
  3. Accelerate: Press W (yes, even in reverse you use W!)
  4. Steer: A and D
  5. Shift up: As RPMs increase, press G for 2nd, 3rd, etc.
  6. Brake: S to slow down
  7. Shift down: B when slowing or need more power
⚠️ Ice Roads Are Extremely Slippery

Drive slowly, especially on turns. Brake BEFORE corners, not during. Use engine braking (downshift) instead of brakes when possible.

📞 Buying the Corris Rivett - Step-by-Step

The Corris Rivett (based on Ford Taunus TC) is your main project car. It costs 500mk and requires precise steps to purchase. After buying, see our complete Rivett Build Guide for assembly instructions.

Where to Find the Ad

Drive to PSK gas station. Inside, look for the job board on the right wall (past the automatic sliding doors). You'll see an advertisement with a phone number.

💡 Phone Number

The Corris Rivett seller's number is: 08609553

You can skip the PSK visit and call directly from home if you already know the number.

Making the Call (CRITICAL STEPS)

  1. Go to apartment phone
Phone is in the hallway. Pick up receiver (LMB).
  2. Dial using NUMPAD
    Type: 08609553
MUST use NUMPAD! Number row doesn't work. Press Enter after typing.
  3. Wait for seller to talk
He'll ramble about the car. DO NOT hang up!
  4. Wait for HIM to hang up
You'll hear the line go dead / beeping tone. If you hang up early, the quest won't trigger!
  5. Check your map
Open map (in apartment). You should see a new "Car for Sale" pin at location 9.
🔴 Common Failure: Hanging Up Early

This is the #1 mistake. If you hang up before the seller finishes talking, the map marker WON'T appear. You'll have to call again. Be patient!

Visiting the Firewood Guy

When you arrive:

  1. Approach the seller (Reijo Livaloinen, aka "Firewood Guy")
  2. Wait for dialogue to complete
  3. When prompted, pay 500mk
  4. Car is yours!

What You Get

The Corris Rivett comes as:

💡 Moving the Rivett

The Rivett cannot be driven (no engine!). You need to TOW it using vehicles from our Vehicles Guide:

  • Kekmet tractor - Safest, found at woodshed by parents' house
  • Gifu truck - Faster but harder to control

Many players tow it to parents' house instead of apartment because of the motor hoist in garage (essential for engine assembly).

⚠️ Budget Planning

After buying the Rivett (500mk), you still need:

  • 100+ parts to assemble it (~8,000-14,000mk total)
  • Weekly rent (525mk/week)
  • Fuel, food, electricity bills

Start a job IMMEDIATELY to earn money. See our Money Making Guide.

❄️ Survival Basics - Don't Freeze to Death

My Winter Car is set in January 1999 Finland. Temperature is around -24°C. Cold kills.

Critical Stat: Body Temperature

🔴 Hypothermia Warning

Without heat sources, hypothermia can kill you quickly. Never venture outdoors without the winter jacket!

Staying Warm:

Other Survival Stats

Stat What It Does How to Manage
HUNGER Affects energy and stamina Buy food at PSK. Eat sausages, meals at café.
THIRST Dehydration affects health Drink water (apartment sink) or beverages from PSK
PROBLEM Alcoholism meter (NOT thirst!) Drink beer/vodka to lower it. See Problem Bar explanation and Survival Guide
FATIGUE Affects ability to work Sleep in bed (also saves game)
STRESS Affects mental state Sauna, smoking, drinking
URINE Bladder pressure Press P anywhere

Sleeping & Saving

⚠️ Game ONLY Saves When You Sleep

There is NO autosave. The ONLY way to save is:

  • Sleep in your bed (apartment or parents' house)
  • Apartment must be warm (30°C radiator minimum) or sleep won't work

Save frequently! Death = lose all progress since last sleep.

💡 Hidden Quick Save

Pressing P (urinate) also triggers a quick save. Use this when you're far from home and want to save progress.

Money Management

⚠️ Top 10 Beginner Mistakes - Avoid These!

❌ Mistake #1: Forgetting to Unplug Block Heater

Result: Ripped cord, damaged car
Prevention: ALWAYS unplug at front of car BEFORE driving. Make it a habit!

🆘 Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I play with a controller?

A: Controller support exists but is limited in EA. Many actions (like scraping windows) are easier with mouse. Keyboard is strongly recommended.

Q: What if I don't have a NUMPAD?

A: You'll need to remap phone controls or use an on-screen keyboard. NUMPAD is required for phone calls in default settings.

Q: How long does it take to build the Rivett?

A: With 100+ parts needed, expect 20-30 hours of real-time work for a first build. Experienced players can do it in 10-15 hours. Follow our step-by-step Corris Rivett Build Guide to minimize trial and error.

Q: Should I enable permadeath?

A: NO for first playthrough! Permadeath deletes your save on death. Learn the game with normal mode first.

Q: Why can't I sleep in my bed?

A: Apartment is too cold. Turn on bedroom radiator to 30°C and wait for room to warm up.

Q: The Sorbett won't start. Help!

A: Did you plug in the block heater overnight? If car was left unplugged, oil froze. See Troubleshooting Guide.
